Department employees are encouraged to participate in this research study and will be given a $10 Amazon Gift Card for the initial training and a $10 Amazon Gift Card for a 3-month follow-up interview. At the three-month follow-up visit, all participants, regardless of initial method of training, will be offered access to the training session with the method that shows superior skill acquisition from the training research.  Register Here.

Flu Shot Clinic - October 3, 8am - Noon, Carson

Walgreens will provide vaccinations for UnitedHealthcare and Kaiser members. The vaccinations available this year include:

  • Flu shots ― trivalent, protecting from three different flu strains.
  • Pneumonia.
  • Tdap ― tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).

To get the pneumonia vaccine, employees must meet one of three criteria: be 65 or older, have a medical condition that warrants the vaccination or be a smoker. The Tdap shot is a once-in-a-lifetime vaccination, with a TD booster every 10 years. If you plan to get either of those vaccinations, let the pharmacists know your health and vaccination history.

To receive a vaccine at no cost, present your UnitedHealthcare or Kaiser ID card. Without a card, the flu vaccine will cost $25. Dependents over 7 years old and spouses also may get vaccinated.

If you need written proof of your vaccination, please inform the pharmacist at the time of vaccination.

If you are unable to attend the on-site clinic:
  • Kaiser members can get a flu vaccine at no cost at Kaiser facilities.
  • UnitedHealthcare members can get a flu vaccine at no cost through any Walgreens pharmacy.

You may fill out the vaccine consent form ahead of time and bring it with you.

If you have questions, please contact Renée Strauss at extension 2067.

Electric Driving and Riding Experience - May 24, 11am-1pm

CHECK IT OUT | What employees are saying about their electric cars

Whether you care about cleaner air, enjoyable driving or saving money, there are lots of things to love about electric vehicles. The department, which has two plug-in hybrid fleet vehicles, works hard to make it easy for electric car drivers by providing four chargers at the Cherry Creek campus and one at the Laboratory Services building. There are 22 department employees
ev-banner-image.png
who drive electric vehicles, and here’s what some of them have to say:
  • “I love that my EV doesn't have a transmission and never has to shift gears. EVs have great acceleration so they are fun to drive.” - Alicia Cronquist, DCEED

  • “I love how quiet my EV is. No one complains that there is too much background noise when I'm on hands-free calls.” - Andy Woster, PSD

  • “I love NEVER having to stop at a gas station, especially when I'm already running late. And there's no oil to change!” - Alison Grace Bui, CHED

  • “I love how affordable my EV was. After tax credits, it was cheaper than any conventional car its size.” - Lauren McDonell, DEHS

Curious about electric vehicles? Come check one out at the EV Ride-and-Drive Event!

Protect The Skin You're In

May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Prevention Month. The Colorado Cancer Coalition has launched a toolkit to help spread sun safety messages. We invite you to consider reading the toolkit yourself and sharing it with your partners if appropriate.

Here are easy prevention options:

  • Stay in the shade, especially during midday hours
  • Wear clothing that covers your arms and legs
  • Wear a hat with a wide brim to shade your face, head, ears, and neck
  • Wear sunglasses that wrap around and block all UVA and UVB rays
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, and both UVA and UVB protection
  • Avoid indoor tanning

About this Toolkit
This kit was created to raise awareness through social media about melanoma/skin cancer prevention and early detection. We hope you use this guide to help spread awareness during the month of May and throughout the year.
Colorado residents spend a lot of time outside in the sun. This kit acknowledges the health benefits of being outdoors while educating on skin cancer prevention.
Who Should Use this Toolkit?
This kit is for public health professionals, cancer control professionals, coalitions, community-based organizations and stakeholders who want to help spread the word about skin cancer prevention. It was created for health care providers, nonprofits, and other community organizations in Colorado to help amplify social media reach during Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. You will find suggested sample social media messaging that you can post as is or alter to fit your intended audience.
